DEMOGRAPHIC EVALUATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION CHANGES WITH EMPAHASIS ON YOUTH EMPLOYMENT ISSUES IN IRAN: CURRENT SITUATION & FORECASTING

Today, higher education tends to generalization and has emerged to social demand of population. According to human capital theory, education role has efficient in the economic development. In the recent years, changes in higher education of Iran, demonstrate a rapid growth of numbers of the university graduates. This phenomenon has effected on youth employment.
The study is followed a problem-based approach, and designed to answer the question, due to demographic changes, Is the higher education in terms of number of the graduates has changed in the last 25 years and how will change in the next 10 years?
The aims of this paper is to identify and project the changes of the population age-sex structure of aged 18 and above, higher educated population aged 18-24 years, level and trend of number of the university graduates and its employed population, the share of higher educated population to all of the employees and unemployment rate of the higher educated population, 1986-2011. Data are mostly taken from the censuses 1986 (1365) and 2011 (1390) which are conducted by Statistical Center of Iran (SCI). Also, we used the demographic methods for population projection of target group. Results showed that we will see a remarkable changes in the coming next years (1400). It involves evaluating possible solutions into consideration by national authorities. |
